You're Being Watched
I'm sure most of you have noticed yourselves on the monitors that are located inside
the doors of many retailers to remind us that we are being watched. The only thing
that bothers most of us is how weird we feel seeing ourselves on camera.. If
someone chose to attempt to shoplift or conduct themselves in some illegal or
inappropriate manner they might conclude that they wouldn't get caught, what they
do would go unnoticed or they will never be called on to account for their actions.
Every time i observe myself on one of those retail security cameras, I think about
the fact that there's no where I could ever go to evade the all seeing eyes of God.
The Old Testament song writer, David reminds us, "The Lord is in His holy temple:
the Lord is on His holy throne. He observes the sons of men: His eyes examine
them." Psalm 11:4 NIV
Most of us over the age of thirty have had those candid moments with our parents
where we enlightened them to some of things we did in our teens and early twenties
they would have not consented to, we can't believe we actually did and both
conclude it's a miracle we lived to tell about.
I've never confessed anything to God that I wasn't confident He wasn't aware of or
took Him by surprise. As a matter of fact, He was the one that brought it to my
attention that we needed to have a conversation about it.
I think most children behave much differently when they know their parents are
watching. There's was nothing like that moment as a child you were doing
something you know you shouldn't be doing only to turn around and find out you
have been caught in the act by your parent. To pick up on our theme for the year
2010, "Aim to Please," might i remind you that we have a Father in Heaven that's
ever observant. He doesn't wink at sin ans say things like, " boys will be boys." He's
aware of our attitudes of our heart, our unspoken thoughts and the evil that exists in
our hearts we all too often refuse to confront ourselves. If we lived in this reality,
I'm convinced that we would be more likely to live with a heart to please God. Not
so much out of a sense of fear of being punished by Him as much as disappointing a
such kind Heavenly Father who has proven Himself so gracious and merciful.
Everyone looks to be encouraged when they are found doing good. So let me
encourage you with this thought. For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the
earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. 11 Chronicles
16:9 NIV
